Looking forward to 2013!

As we look forward, we are as excited as ever to bring the Celtic Celebration to Reno again!

We’re instituting some changes in our vendor area this year. In the past, if someone wanted to be at our festival and was willing to pay the fee, that was good enough for us. In leaner economic times, however, we realize that profitability is an important aspect of deciding whether or not to participated in specific games and/or events. We want all our vendors to make the profit they need to come back year after year!

To that end, while first preference will still go to our vendors who have faithfully been with us in the past, this year, we’d like to open to as many different types of vendors as we can and assure everyone optimum profit. The first vendor application to be received with full payment will gain the opportunity to give feedback on whether they think their vended items should be exclusive, or if they think there is room for more than one. We already have long-standing kilt vendors, so that is not something we would add this year.

One of our goals this year is to increase our food and ethnic food vendors. If you sell or vend a Celtic food item, please consider coming to Reno! We had three food vendors last year, and everyone ran out of food! That was great for business, but not so great for our hungry folks attending the festival!

The take-away from this should be, if you are interested in coming to our festival PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR VENDOR APPLICATION and send it in WITH PAYMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

We will take vendors as long as we have room and don’t violate our own exclusivity policy, but we’d be thrilled to have all applications in by July 15. I will be contacting many of you directly to make sure everyone is aware of this.

We hope this makes our festival better, and are always willing to listen to suggestions.

Thanks for understanding and getting your stuff in early!

This was a very sad year for the webmistress, as she had to miss the event because of some job things. Lucky for me, there were talented people at the Celebration who took great pictures! One, I just communicated with on Facebook. His name is C.W. Wilkinson, and he hung out and posted his pic’s with the Stirling Mercenaries. C.W. has a Facebook Page too. Lucky for me, my community is amazing and there were incredible people who cataloged it all! See some comments below from those I was able to find =)

Just spent a glorious two days at the 2012 2nd Annual Reno Celtic Celebration and Ceilidh. Mega-kudos to Willie Puchert and his large and dedicated team of assistants and volunteers, and to Pat Campbell-Cozzi at the Wildflower Village who made it such an enjoyable success. I had the great pleasure of assisting with Celtic Rock Band Tempest’s “Mega-Store” and being able to listen to all four of their sets, as well as those of “Molly’s Revenge” and Local Wonders 317. If you were there you know. If you weren’t, get thee to the very next one near you. Warm your heart and feed your soul…

CELTIC CELEBRATION IS A WRAP. EVERYTHING about it was AWESOME.. Seeing Gwen Bohdan, Lisa Lee, Pat Campbell-Cozzi and Christie Cotcher Lisa Lee, Kristen and hanging with the PIRATES Mad Jack Wythim and Pirates Reno ’s Commodore! Experiencing Molly’s Revenge and Tempest in REAL LIFE and singing with my FAVORITE IRISHMAN Kevin Lyons and the rest of my beautiful band of Jameson drinking eirophiles, 3-17! Bryan Wildman and Willie Puchert and Danielle Gann-Lind OUTDID themselves. it was a weekend to remember forever. The Sierra Highlanders and the Sacramento pipe band were mindbendingly, molecule vibratingly intense and soul stirring. I am SO grateful for being a part of the celtic community in Reno.

Updated for the 2012 Event!

So much exciting stuff happening! I thought the Heelan Coos might have been the pinnacle of happiness for me, but it just keeps getting better!

Our monthly board meeting was last Monday, and I’d like to congratulate long-time board member and volunteer Bryan Wildman on becoming President of the Reno Celtic Celebration board!

Bryan brings a wealth of experience to the job, as the current festival manager for Artown, prior volunteer and entertainment coordinator for the Celebration, and all around great guy!

We also welcomed Missy Abel and Dayleen Golcon to vacant positions on the board of directors. We have a really great crew and look forward to having amazing success for this years event. We additionally welcomed Lowell Patton to help coordinate the clans, and Willie Puchert took over as Vice-President.

As if all of that wasn’t enough and totally exciting, we have a couple of announcements regarding entertainment. We are honored and pleased to welcome TEMPEST to this years Celebration:

We are super excited to have them! Additionally, we are welcoming Molly’s Revenge!

In addition to all the great Celebration news, last night (5/24/12), we got to celebrate “Irish Night” at the Reno Aces Ballpark. By all accounts, a good time was had by all! Here are some highlights:

Sponsoring organization on this were the Son’s and Daughters of Erin. We are so lucky to live where we do and have the community we do. The game got a little chilly at the end, but the hometown Reno Aces were victorious and a great time was had by all!

I’ve also just gotten the 2011 photo’s that we have available, so check back often for awesome photographic updates to different things on the site. There were some really great pictures taken last year of the Celebration. I can’t wait to share them with you throughout or pages!

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as they become available!

Board Meetings and Changes and Coos, oh my!

Having just passed Beltane and as we march towards Midsummer, so far, this has been a busy year for the Reno Celtic Celebration! I and two other people were welcomed onto the board in January, and the ensuing months have seen us brainstorming to make an awesome festival! The board meetings are the third Monday of each month and we talk about what’s happening with the planning of the festival and what’s up and coming in the community.

The Heelan Coo’s (that’s Highland Cattle for those of you not familiar with Scottish lingo…) are one of the first things that endeared the Celtic Festival to me. Sometimes, in October, it’s still hot. I would think in the desert, in October, when it is hot, would be a very not nice time to be a fuzzy cow. The above picture was NOT taken at one of THOSE times, but rather in 2010 when we had an AUTHENTIC Celtic event complete with driving rain, wind, and snow on Sunday =) In 2011 for a lot of different reasons, the Heelan Coo’s could not make it to the Celebration, which made ALL of us sad. Rumor has it, however, THEY ARE MAKING A RETURN JOURNEY IN 2012! I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. But I’m a nerd.

So. You may get tired of me real soon on the Celtic Celebration website here. This is me:

My name is Danielle and I am a compulsive volunteer =) I just took over the website from Rene, who did it for many years, and who I am eternally thankful to for being so helpful with the transition, transparent with her information, and generous with her time walking me through things or directing me to the proper place.

I was welcomed to the board this January of 2012, and I look forward to doing what I can to make the Celtic Celebration better. A new web format is one of the first things. I will also be handling vendors this year. I hope to put a lot of useful information here. For the time being, if you need to get a hold of me, I can be reached at info (at) renoceltic (dot) org. That currently comes to me.

I think I have all the content moved over from the old site. If you see something amiss, see something I’ve missed, or something you think should be included here, please contact me and let me know, I’d love to hear from folks!

Thanks!

~Danielle
